The compositions of the paintings in this series are derived from social media images that represent aesthetic ideals of interior domestic spaces. These aesthetic ideals are elevated above functionality and present an unrealistic permanence. The stillness and unrealistic softness of the paintings aim to make them appear as if they are an alienated space in a moment frozen in time, in which the viewer is transported to, but also disconnected from.
The idealized aesthetics are in tension with the sterile and unwelcoming nature of the spaces. This unwelcoming nature of the spaces, as well as a sense of boredom, is brought about by the contrived and confrontational head-on composition, stillness, and unrealistic softness which are similar to that of formal classical paintings.
